Campbell was interviewed by Screen Rant about the possibility that a Green Lantern director's cut might be possible (as they have been a hot topic within the DCEU lately). It's not surprising that Campbell has no interest whatsoever in returning to the superhero genre.

Let's just say that I had my cut. It was an entire sequence in which he was an 11-year old kid that was shown at the beginning. It was the scene in which his father died in an air crash. This was a great sequence. The production head at the time wanted to intercut Hal's death with Hal falling in the plane. He saw flashbacks of this happening. It was not something I liked.

Fans and critics alike were disapproveveveveve of Green Lantern's theatrical debut. The film also failed to make a profit at the boxoffice, earning $219 million at the global box offices on a budget of $200 million. Campbell doesn't feel bitter about the outcome. Campbell is actually partially responsible for the movie's outcome.

You know what? It didn't work. I'm partly to blame for this. It was wrong. Because Bond is my favorite movie, and I have seen every Bond film before I directed it. I'm not a fan of superhero movies, so it was not something I would have done. Directors have to take responsibility for their failures. What does this say? Failure has only one father, success has many. Campbell concluded that this was me.

Green Lantern, who has been absent from the DCEU universe, is now getting another chance with HBO Max's Green Lantern Corps. The series is currently being developed.
