A petition was signed by nearly 3 million people calling on Congress to issue $2,000 monthly stimulant checks.

Since Stephanie Bonin uploaded the petition to Change.org last January, it has gained significant traction. As the Delta variant spreads throughout the country, it's making waves once again. Hundreds of thousands of Americans have signed up since May.

Bonin, a Colorado restaurant proprietor, stated that he was asking Congress to provide support for families by making a $2,000 payment for adults, and a $1,000 payment per child immediately. Regular checks will continue for the duration of crisis. "Without this, workers who are laid off, furloughed, self-employed, or working with reduced hours will have difficulty paying rent or putting food on the table.

Bonin asked Congress to issue "immediate checks" and "recurring payments" in his petition.

She wrote that Congress must ensure that they are not financially destroyed for contributing to the country's health.

There have been three rounds so far of stimulus checks.

In March 2013, $1,400 in stimulus checks was sent to eligible Americans. In March 2017, the Trump administration issued two rounds of stimulus checks. The first round was $1,200 and the second round was $600.

It is not clear if there will be a fourth round. In May, the White House said that Congress would decide whether to issue a fourth stimulus.

Jen Psaki, White House Press Secretary, stated that "we'll see what members propose," noting that the federal stimulus package is usually costly.

However, Insider's Joseph Zeballos Roig points out that a fourth stimulus package is unlikely. He reported that the economy is recovering jobs in an analysis published in July.

However, the petition shows that not only is there support for one round but also for regular stimulus checks. Bonin's petition received so much support, Change.org included it in its list 10 petitions that have changed 2020.
