Taliban Conquers Much of Afghanistan, Bans COVID Vaccine

This is just one of the many demands that military insurgents have made.
Rapidly Deteriorating Situation

The Taliban are continuing their brutal takeover of Afghanistan and have decided to ban the COVID-19 vaccination in certain areas.

Shamshad News, an Afghani news site, reported that the Taliban had banned the distribution of coronavirus vaccines in Paktia (a province in eastern Afghanistan) after the group captured it last week. Walayat Khan Ahmadzai was the regional public health director. He said that the Taliban had warned employees at regional hospitals to stop dispensing the vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccination ward at the regional hospital has been closed.

Afghanistan's President Has Fled

The Taliban is causing a serious crisis in Afghanistan. According to The New York Times, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani fled Afghanistan on Sunday as an insurgent military force reached Kabul, the capital. Kabul is the last major city under the control of the official government.

Many fled the Taliban's brutality and ruthlessness to escape the country. Many are trying to flee the city now that it has fallen.

Takeover by Brutal

The Taliban have made many other draconian demands since their takeover in Afghanistan. Lynne ODonnell, a journalist from Kabul, described the atrocities and horrors that the Taliban have caused to Afghans, particularly girls and women.

ODonnell stated that women were told they needed to remain at home. If they weren't accompanied by a male relative, they couldn't go out. They were required to wear a full hijab. Women were also told that they would be taken into custody and would be married to Taliban fighters.

The situation is getting worse. Although President Biden ordered an additional 5,000 troops be sent to the region in order to help with the withdrawal of translators and journalists who were part of the US occupation of the country, it is clear that this situation will only get worse.
