Diego Costa left Atletico Madrid in December for the second time.

Diego Costa, a former striker for Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, has signed for Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro. This ends his eight-month absence from a club.

After asking Atletico Madrid to end his contract early, the 32-year-old forward from Spain left Atletico Madrid in Dec.

He was back at La Liga for his second stint, but he lost favor after he returned to Chelsea in 2017.

Costa's new club Atletico Mineiro is five points ahead of the rest in Brazil's Serie A.

Costa was born in Brazil, and played in two friendlies in March 2013. He then declared that he would like to play international football for Spain after he received Spanish citizenship.

During his three-season tenure with Chelsea, he won two Premier League titles. He scored 59 goals in 120 matches.

His spell was ended in bitterness when Antonio Conte, his manager, told him via text that he had no plans to include him in the next season's plans.

After being told to train with reserves, Costa refused to go back to Chelsea and was eventually sold to Atletico Madrid.

He was injured and only managed to make 43 league appearances in three years. During that time, he scored 12 goals. He asked for his release "for personal reasons".
