Chicago Bears reach deal with former Philadelphia Eagles stalwart Jason Peters

The Chicago Bears reached an agreement to sign offensive tackle Jason Peters' one-year contract with Vince Taylor, his agent.
Matt Nagy, Bears coach, said Peters signed with Chicago in order to compete for the left tackle position. Teven Jenkins, the Bears' first choice for left tackle, was injured in a back injury.

Nagy stated Saturday that it was about getting to know Nagy, who has been in the league for a while and is very familiar with him. We understand that he is older. Juan [Castillo, Bears offensive line coach] has a long history. Juan was a colleague of his in Philadelphia many years ago. I was there as well.

He knows that there is great competition for him to be brought in. We will do our best to protect him and give them a great run-game. He's here to challenge for the position of starting left tackle. It's all open to everyone. It's a contest."

Peters, 39, played 12 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles over the course of his remarkable career. He was awarded seven of his nine Pro Bowl bids with them.

After playing guard last season, he returned to the Eagles with a one-year contract. In August, he was moved to left tackle after Andre Dillard broke his biceps.

Peters was unable to play eight games in 2020, and was put on injured reserve in December after sustaining a toe injury. Peters has had multiple injuries in recent years. He has played 44 out of 64 possible games since 2017.

Peters was an undrafted, free-agent pick by the Buffalo Bills 2004. He has compiled a rsum that is worthy of Hall of Fame consideration over his 17 NFL seasons with two first-team All Pro selections.
