Oval Invincibles remained in The Hundred's hunt by holding their nerve to defeat London Spirit by two wickets, and place second at the men's table.
The Invincibles were 52-4 in pursuit of 147. Their hopes of progressing were fading but Laurie Evans, a nerveless player, led his team to victory with five balls remaining.
The hosts required six runs from six balls, and had two wickets remaining. Evans launched a six to a cheering crowd at The Kia Oval.
Evans, a fan favorite, was able to finish 67 out of 37 balls and save his team's top order.
Already eliminated, the Spirit looked like they might spoil the Invincibles chances at different points. Eoin Morgan, the England captain, scored 41 points in their 146-7.
The Invincibles now trail leaders Birmingham Phoenix by one point and are level with Southern Brave, third in the table. They play in a big game on Monday.
The final is automatically for the top finishers, with the second and third placers meeting in the eliminator.
The Oval: Local lad wins
"That is the Hundred's innings. It is absolutely magnificent."
These were the words of Michael Vaughan, former captain of England, as Evans saluted fans and left the field. Although it has a lot of competition, Evans' knock is unmatched.
It will be even more special because Evans was born in Lambeth just a few minutes from The Oval. Evans is also a Surrey County side player who he joined last year.
Evans hit four fours as well as four sixes, and even some traditional power shots that seemed effortless.
Morgan, Spirit's skipper, said that it was the best play he'd ever seen of the 33-year old.
Heather Knight, Spirit women's captain, said that it was "just so classy." He was the one who aimed for the short boundary, and he made sure he was shaking hands at the finish.
Shamsi dials in
What do you think about South Africa's international spinners, and their celebrations in South Africa?
We saw Imran Tahir running around Edgbaston's outfield after he had taken a hat trick for Birmingham Phoenix earlier this week. We saw Tabraiz Shamsi, Tahir's former international teammate's signature celebration.
He took 3-25 and, after dismissing Josh Inglis he whipped out his boot and mimicked dialling the number on the sole before holding it up to his ear as a telephone.
Shamsi saw off Morgan and Ravi Bopara to win a golden duck. The celebration began at the beginning of Shamsi's fine bowling performance.
Because he is a wrist spinner, he can move the ball in both directions. His left-arm angle adds another headache to the batters.
Bopara was dismissed by his ball. It was perfect. He turned away from the right-hander, and hit his off stump.
Bopara's embarrassing moment
Bopara was bowled by the first ball he faced. The all-rounder also had a embarrassing moment on the field.
It could have been worse.
