Norwich 0-3 Liverpool: Mohamed Salah scores and assists two

Last update on. From the section Premier League
Liverpool have not lost against Norwich in any of their 15 Premier League matches.

Mohamed Salah scored one goal and provided two assists to help Liverpool get their Premier League title bid off the ground. They won comfortably at Norwich City, newly promoted.

Salah scored his third goal to make him the first player to score in the Premier League's opening weekend. This was a great result after Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota had earlier set up Salah.

Reds were boosted by the return to full fitness of defender Virgil van Dijk, who had been out for 10 months due to injury. They took the lead in the second half.

Trent Alexander-Arnold discovered Salah in the box, and the Egypt forward's touch fell to Jota who was able to complete clinically.

It was harsh for Norwich, who had made an energetic start to the match. They were cheered on by a buoyant crowd celebrating their return to Carrow Road.

Teemu Pukki scored 11 goals in Premier League two years ago. Alisson saved him from an early save after he got in behind the defense of the visitors.

Liverpool was in control of the game and they never looked at risk of losing it. Norwich, however, struggled to regain their old rhythm.

Six minutes after the break, Max Aarons scored a goal-bound goal from Sadio Mene. However, a second goal was scored shortly after the hour mark by substitute Firmino.

Brazil's forward was only on the pitch for just four minutes when he scored from close range. Salah did a great job and opted to pass the ball to Salah when Salah had the opportunity to shoot from a closer angle.

Salah completed the perfect opening day by grabbing the ball after a corner was only half cleared and curling a fine strike into the net.

Liverpool is boosted by defensive returns

Liverpool 0-3 Norwich: Jurgen Klopp is delighted to have football back

After suffering from defensive injuries, Liverpool finished third in Premier League last season and was 17 points behind champions Manchester City.

The signs are encouraging that they will be well-stocked in this area this campaign. Van Dijk was making his league debut since October 2013 and was joined by Joel Matip in the centre of defense after seven months.

Joe Gomez (who was also absent for the majority of the second half of last season) and Ibrahima Konate, a new signing, were both on the bench at Norwich, as Liverpool suddenly appear to have a well-stocked area in which it had been lacking in the previous campaign.

Van Dijk's and Matip's play had a certain rustiness, especially early on when Norwich tried to get in behind the visitors defense on a few occasions.

They grew into it and were able to repel the Canaries' attacks easily by the second period. Alisson did however make a great stop at the final whistle to keep them out of the match.

The Reds will face bigger challenges this season, but their defence is strong and they have three of their four attacking players scoring against Norwich. They are well placed to win the title.

Groundhog Day for Norwich

Norwich City 0-3 Liverpool - Daniel Farke praises Norwich, despite the 'tricky" Liverpool game

After one season in Championship, Norwich are now back in Premier League. They easily won their return to the top flight.

They were relegated with 21 points after their last season at this level. Their season was marked by good play in most of their games but they failed to capitalize on it.

Norwich fans made the most of the Premier League return to Carrow Road. They were buoyant before kick-off and they continued that positive vibes as the home team got off to a bright start.

For the first 25 minutes, they were the stronger side. They attacked with speed and a directness that threw off the Liverpool defense. It soon became a familiar story, as despite their excellent play, they couldn't take advantage of their opponents' chances.

They were second best from then on, improving slightly towards end when Alisson denied Ben Gibson consolation.

They will not lose against Liverpool on their opening day. In fact, historically they have had problems against Liverpool in the past. Reds have won 13 of their 15 previous encounters.

It is also a reminder of how difficult life in the Premier League can be with Manchester City as reigning champions and games against Arsenal and Leicester City following.
