Jack Coan named Notre Dame starting quarterback against Florida State

The school announced Saturday that Jack Coan, a Wisconsin transfer, will be Notre Dame’s starting quarterback in its season opener against Florida State.
Coan defeated freshman Tyler Buchner (a four-star recruit) and sophomore Drew Pyne (who played a few snaps for the Irish last year). Coan's years of experience was what Coach Brian Kelly stated.

Kelly tweeted, "Jack proved more consistent and therefore going into our opener gives us the best opportunity for success."

Jack Coan will become our first QB.

After three seasons with the Badgers, Coan transferred to Notre Dame. He was sidelined by an injury in 2020. Graham Mertz, Wisconsin's best quarterback, rose to prominence.

Coan and Mertz will be going head-to-head in September 25th, when the Irish face Wisconsin at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Coan threw 23 touchdowns and 3 278 yards in three seasons at Wisconsin.

Kelly stated last week that Kelly took him because he was a veteran of the Big Ten and a very high-quality program.

Coan replaces Ian Book, Notre Dame's starting quarterback in the College Football Playoff in the second and third seasons. The New Orleans Saints selected Book in the fourth round this year's NFL Draft.
