The Aiken County Republican Party censured GOP Senator Lindsey Graham from South Carolina this week. According to the Aiken Standard, the party highlighted his support for the bipartisan $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill.
Local party, which is located in one of the most Republican counties in South Carolina, stated that Graham "consciously violated" the platform of South Carolina Republican Party in removing him from office. It claimed that Graham had "opened the door for Chinese investment in American projects," which would increase "the threat to our national safety."
The landmark legislation, which will inject federal money into some the most urgent road, bridge, and highway projects in the country, was passed by the Senate Democrats in a vote of 69 to 30, with the support of 19 Republicans.
Graham thanked the legislation for its benefits to the citizens in the Palmetto State after it was passed.
He stated that the bipartisan infrastructure bill was good for South Carolina in a Tuesday statement. It provides crucial help for our roads and bridges as well as ports. Additionally, it expands broadband internet access. I've always supported infrastructure investment and wish that we had passed it years ago.
He said, "This bill gives American infrastructure a much-needed facelift."

While prominent Republicans such as Graham and Kentucky's Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell voted for the bill, the former president Donald Trump spent weeks critiquing the legislation. He called it "a disgrace" despite being urged by GOP Senator. Rob Portman, Ohio, asked him to support the legislation. It was carefully crafted both by the White House as well as a bipartisan group senators.

According to the Aiken County GOP, Graham's support for the bill was similar to supporting the policy platform of Democratic Party.
"Supporting the 'Invest In America Act' is tantamount of supporting the Socialist Marxist Agenda of the House of Representatives and Senate Democrats, who are using climate change to force businesses into tyrannical government conformity against our free enterprise system," said the party in its censure of Senator.
They said: "This bill fails address border security, sets up no limits on the fiscal impact of the 'Green infrastructure' and severely degrades rights of American businesses. He willfully ignored the fiscal conservative agenda he was elected to uphold.
Graham's friend and former home state senator Tim Scott voted against the legislation.
He stated that he supports targeted investment to upgrade our nation's roads and bridges, ports, broadband and other infrastructure needs. "But I can't support reckless spending on unrelated projects that will choke our future generations with mountains debt."
He said, "Rather than adopting a common-sense approach to infrastructure investment, this bill was rushed through so Democrats could spend trillions of dollars more on liberal policies they don't need. All this while record inflation. American families can't afford to pay the bill for this "spend now, tax later" plan. That's why I voted against it.
Now, the bill goes to the House. It is likely that it will be linked to a $3.5 trillion "human infrastructure” reconciliation package. Democrats hope to approve this package in a party-line vote. This would only require a simple majority to pass.
