Watford celebrated their Premier League return by winning thrillingly at Vicarage Road against Aston Villa.

The Hornets won automatic promotion to the Premier League on their first attempt. Villa's late comeback was defeated by the Hornets and they retained all three points.

Xisco Munoz's team took the lead after 10 minutes thanks to forward Emmanuel Dennis, who made his debut.

Three minutes before the half-time break, Ismaila Sarr doubled their lead. She beat Emiliano Martinez goalkeeper with a brutal deflection from Villa captain Tyrone Mings.

Cucho Hernandez, a Watford substitute, scored another goal in his debut match. He added the third from the box's edge just seconds after he was brought on to the pitch.

Aston Villa scored three minutes after the break with a superb half-volley by John McGinn.

After Bertrand Traore was fouled by Adam Masina in injury time, Danny Ings scored his Villa's first goal from the penalty spot. However, it was too late for Dean Smith's team.
