Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Auston Matthews has wrist surgery

TORONTO -- Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Mathews underwent wrist surgery Friday. He is expected to take six weeks off work to fully recover.Matthews was the NHL's top scorer last season and the team stated that Matthews had undergone the procedure after "consultations with Maple Leafs specialists"Matthews felt discomfort this week after he increased his on-ice training.The 23-year old from Arizona scored 41 goals in 52 matches last season, despite missing four games in February due to a lingering wrist problem. Toronto didn't specify which wrist required the operation or if injuries were related.Toronto will host Montreal on Oct. 13, for the opening of its regular season.
