However, this assumes you are planning to redeem within the next few months.American AAdvantage has not devalued its partner awards for over five years, and I expect that we will eventually see a devaluation.This brings me to another topic. Although nothing has been officially announced, it is possible that this partnership could be extended.Use AAdvantage miles to travel in Etihad Business ClassThis transfer option could be made permanent.This transfer option is available until November 13, 2021. However, I don't think it's impossible that this could be extended or made permanent. Many points enthusiasts have wondered for years why Citi ThankYou points did not transfer to American AAdvantage points, particularly considering the relationship between the two cards and the policies of their competitors.Probably, this was due to one of the following factors.American and Citi could not agree on a fair price to transfer pointsAmerican was concerned that this transfer option would lead to the loss of its co-brand cards portfolioThere are several ways you can look at this temporary opportunity.American is testing a transfer option such as this to see how it affects its co-brand cards portfolio, transfer volumes, redemptions of miles, and how it impacts customers.American sees this as a simple way to generate revenue due to coronavirus.Americans' economics have changed on how transfers cost. This is a great development. Although this offer is temporary, it could be extended for longer periods of time. With the current bonus of 80,000 ThankYou Points, this is even more reason to get the Citi Premier Card.If you are considering whether to transfer points, it is best not to make a decision until you have a specific use for your points.
