Tim Anderson hits a 2-run home run, and immediately recognizes it when he walks it off for White Sox vs. Yankees. (0:53).DYERSVILLE (Iowa) -- Tim Anderson hit a home run in the ninth inning to end the Field of Dreams match in cinematic fashion. The Chicago White Sox defeated the New York Yankees 9-8 on Thursday night in Iowa's first Major League Baseball game.Anderson, clearly having as much fun and scoring an RBI double earlier, danced around the bases, wiggled around his neck, and headed home to the celebration dousing from his teammates. The crowd of 7,832 returned through the corn to their cars following a light and fireworks display at the made-from scratch stadium near the filming location of the 1989 classic Kevin Costner movie. The Yankees fans could not have been happier with their trek.Giancarlo and Aaron Judge each hit two-run homers to the Yankees in the ninth off All Star closer Liam Hendriks. The movie-themed throwback became a contest for home runs into the cornfield.Tim Anderson's eighth home run was a walk-off hit in the thrilling Field of Dreams match. AP Photo/Charlie NeibergallThis was exactly the thrill that many players had hoped for. There were eight longballs, two of which were by Judge. It had a Hollywood ending with Anderson's game-saving shot. It didn't matter if it was less from "The Natural", than "Field of Dreams".Jose Abreu made the first drive in the sea of green stalks. His teammates Eloy Jimenez, Seby Zavala and Seby Zavala then followed him with homers to the White Sox.Hendriks won the match (7-2) when Anderson beat Zack Britton (0-1).Lance Lynn, the League ERA leader, was able to avoid a Judge three-run homer and a single shot by Brett Gardner to end five innings for White Sox. He remains unbeaten in eight of his last eight starts.Jimenez scored three runs in the third inning. Zavala scored a second run in the fourth and Yankees starter Andrew Heaney was out for seven.Costner began the evening by making a star entrance. He slowly walked out of the cornrows, much like Shoeless Joe Jackson or his ghost-like team. Then, he turned to see the players doing the same for their pre-game introductions. Costner addressed the fans with the obligatory question, in an ode to the film's famous line "Is it heaven?"It's not Iowa. But MLB will return, as Rob Manfred, commissioner, promised. The teams are still to be determined.FAMILY FIRSTWhite Sox manager Tony La Russa was absent from the game. Miguel Cairo, the bench coach, filled in for him, as he attended the Florida funeral of his brother's husband. La Russa, a 76-year old man, would have fit right in at the site with his team dressed in vintage clothing. He stated earlier this week that he was raised to love the history of the game and that we often lose some of it. "Field of Dreams" is a wonderful movie that embraces everything family and the game.NOT A QUITE MOONLIGHT GRAHAMEach team was allowed to have a 27th player on their roster. The Yankees selected Estevan Florial, while the White Sox called Danny Mendick. Florial was as close to Moonlight Graham as any player could get. He played only one major league baseball game in 1905 with the New York Giants. He later became a Minnesota doctor and played a key role in the movie plot. Florial, 23, had made 28 plate appearances with the Yankees in his previous career. This report was contributed by The Associated Press.
