GOP rep heckled at fundraiser after saying Trump lost election

Wednesday night's confrontation between Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) and an Illinois Senate Candidat highlighted the division in the Republican Party over the baseless claims of former President Donald Trump that the 2020 election was rigged.Crenshaw was at Rosemont's Illinois Republican Party fundraiser when Bobby Piton, who is running to be the GOP nominee for U.S. Senate, challenged him on his conspiracy theory that Trump won the 2020 presidential election. Piton interrupted Crenshaw's speech, interrupting him by saying, "Dont fool yourself into thinking [fraud] is the reason we lost. Its not."Piton stated that he has plenty of evidence, referring to the much-maligned and partisan count of votes in Arizona's Maricopa County. It's going to be a flip and it will turn out. It's all your responsibility.Representative Dan Crenshaw (center) is confronted by a heckler during a GOP fundraiser held in Rosemont, Ill.I won't argue with that. You have to accept this. Are there many cases of voter fraud? Crenshaw stated that there is probably a lot of voter fraud. Trump won, but enough? Absolutely not. Five different states. There are hundreds of thousands of votes. Youre kidding yourself.Piton uploaded the video later to his YouTube channel.According to polls, most Republicans believe Trump's claims regarding the 2020 election, even though there is no evidence. An earlier month Yahoo News/YouGov poll found that 66% of Republicans believe Trump rigged the election and stole his victory, while only 18% believe Joe Biden won the election fair and square.Piton's Maricopa County count has been dragging on for months, resulting in infighting between Arizona Republicans. Jack Sellers, Republican Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, described the unofficial audit as "an adventure in never-never Land" and said it could not overturn the election results.I don't think you will ever understand that the Maricopa County election was fair, free and accurate. It is true. Sellers stated in an Aug. 2 letter that there was no fraud. There wasn't any injection of ballots from Asia and there was no satellite that was beaming votes into our election equipment.Continue the storyRep. Dan Crenshaw. (Chip Somodevilla/Pool via AP)Crenshaw has been critical about GOP lawmakers who claim the 2020 election is illegitimate. He did not vote for the election to be overturned in the wake the Jan. 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol. The congressman supported a Texas lawsuit asking the Supreme Court to invalidate the election results. He was not among the 10 GOP members who voted to impeach Trump because of his involvement in the Jan. 6 events.Real-world consequences continue to follow conspiracy theories about the election. Since last November, at least 18 Republican legislators have passed restrictions that make it harder to vote. They argue that this is necessary to restore voter faith. Many Republicans have declared that they believe the election was stolen and are running for top office in their states. After voting in support of Trump's impeachment, and continuing to push back against the claims of fraud by the former president, the Republican House members voted to remove Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) from the GOP leadership.____Yahoo News has more information:
