Jake Arrieta's second stint with Chicago Cubs ends with release

This was his second stint with them.Arrieta pitched Wednesday night. He allowed 11 hits and eight runs in four innings of the Cubs' loss to Milwaukee Brewers 10-0. This dropped him to 5-11 with a 6.88 ERA. Arrieta lost his seventh consecutive decision. He has a 9.92 ERA over 11 starts since May 25, when he last won.After spending three seasons with Philadelphia Phillies, he returned to Cubs on a one year deal.Arrieta (35), was a star for the Cubs, winning a Cy Young Award during the 2015 season. He also helped the team to three playoff appearances, and the World Series title in 2016. He threw two no-hitters in the 2015 and 2016 seasons and won 40 games.Before the 2018 season, Arrieta signed an agreement for three years with Philadelphia. However, injuries ended his tenure there.He is 115-90 and has a 3.93 ERA over 12 major league seasons.On Thursday, the Cubs placed Willson Contreras, starting catcher, on the 10-day injury list with a right knee strain.
