Ashes 2021-22: ECB chief executive Tom Harrison 'confident' series will go ahead

Harrison stated that this is Harrison's view and that they will continue to follow it."These are reasonable requests that we are asking the Australian government for some leniency."Australia has some the most stringent Covid-19 protocols anywhere in the world.England players taking part in the T20 World Cup or the Ashes may be away for up to four months.The World Cup will be held in Oman and the United Arab Emirates from 17 October through 14 November. Five Ashes Tests are scheduled between 8 December and 18 January.England players met with the ECB, Professional Cricketers' Alliance and discussed the possibility of some players pulling out of the Ashes if they are not permitted to bring their families along for at least part.Harrison stated, "It's important that we can provide comfort to players, their families will be here in Australia, that quarantine conditions are reasonable and allow the players to perform at their best for that series,"Harrison stated that he maintains regular contact with Cricket Australia, but there is no timeline for when the situation will be resolved.He said, "We need to be able to trust that our players will be able get on a plane and perform at their best.""I am very confident that we will reach a place where our obligation to tour is fulfilled."Harrison made a comparison between England's Ashes tour, and England's current series against India. Before that, the ECB approached Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the ECB to allow the tourists to join their families.There would be questions about the credibility of the Ashes series if some England players were to withdraw from the Australia tour.While it is unlikely that traveling supporters will attend, there will be challenges for media from overseas."The integrity and success of the Ashes are paramount." Harrison said that Cricket Australia understood this just as well than we do."Cricket Australia take it seriously and understand the problem."
