Tinder has been exploring new ways to allow people to connect with each other beyond swiping right over the past year. It doesn't matter if there is a pandemic, it can be difficult to make the first move. So why not try breaking the ice with a potential date and weathering the virtual apocalypse? After its first installment, Tinder today announced its second Swipe Night series. It received engagement from more than 20 million users.Swipe Night was launched by Tinder in 2019, as an interactive, choose-your-own adventure story. It was launched at a time Tinder had seen a decrease in user engagement metrics and a drop in quarterly revenue. Tinder's revenue has been steadily rising in recent months, although COVID has slowed it further over the years.Tinder noticed that half of its users were Gen Z (ages 18-25), so it hired Karena Evans, a 25-year old director. Evans has previously directed music videos for Drake and the premiere of HBO Maxs Gossip Girl. Swipe Night allowed users to pick what they would do in an apocalypse. They could swipe left or right to show their choices as characters in the story. Users would be matched with Swipe Night participants based on how many swipes they made. Their choices would then appear on their Tinder profile.According to the company, all of this information will provide plenty of material for postapocalyptic banter.Although some might be skeptical, this is a way to increase user engagement and matchmaking. Tinder reports that there was a 26% increase on Swipe Nights compared to a normal Sunday night. Even the Cannes Film Festival recognized the interactive video series.Tinder has announced that Swipe Night's next installment will be a Gen Z whodunnit.Tinders Fast chat, Tinders' quick chat feature that powers Tinders Hot Takes experience, will be used in the upcoming series. Users can speak before matching. Fast Chat allows users to analyse clues and solve the mystery together on Swipe Night.Tinder has announced that Swipe Night will be available in the apps Explore section. This is a newer section of Tinder that offers members more ways to meet than just swiping. This section, which was part of a group that targets Gen Z users, was revealed last month.
