UN climate report is a landmark warning that global warming is unstoppable. It also warned in its most stark warning that if there is no meaningful action to reduce emissions, we are headed for catastrophically warm. On Monday, the sixth Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Report stated that temperatures will rise by more than 1.5C. This could lead to widespread extreme weather.Damian Carrington, Guardians environment editor, tells Michael Safi the top politicians in the world have nothing to hide if the report's conclusions are not implemented immediately. Carrington said that the UK is preparing to host the Cop26 climate negotiations in Glasgow later in the year. He stated that the path to limit global warming to 1.5C is becoming more difficult and that commitments must be backed up with action to avoid disaster.
