RENTON (Wash.) -- The Seattle Seahawks made Jamal Adams a contract extension and are waiting to hear if he accepts it, a source told ESPN.A source confirmed that Adams' agent and the organization have not spoken to each other in the interim.Adams could be eligible for an extension, which would make him the highest-paid safety in the NFL. This is more than the $15.25m per year average of Justin Simmons with the Denver Broncos. Adams' agent and the Seahawks began negotiations early in the offseason. They continued this process through training camp and their current inaction. Both Adams and Duane Brown, left tackle, reported to camp on-time but did not practice due to their unresolved contract issues. Each remaining spectator Tuesday for Seattle’s 10th practice. It's clear that the Seahawks intend to extend Adams' contract at 25 years old, but it is not clear if they will do the same for Brown, a veteran of 14 years who will turn 36 this month. Sources confirmed to ESPN that the Seahawks aren't currently discussing a new contract with Brown. When asked Tuesday if Brown was up for an extension, Coach Pete Carroll was vague, replying, "Nothing is happening with this at the moment."When asked if Adams had anything new, Carroll answered "no".The Seattle Times reported Tuesday that Adams' agent and John Schneider, the Seahawks general manger, have not reengaged in negotiations and that Brown is currently not being discussed with. The Times reported that Russell Wilson, quarterback, told the team that he is willing to transfer money in his contract to make room for Adams or Brown extensions. This was confirmed by a source. The Seahawks are not fond of contract restructures which push cap fees into future years. They have done this only twice since Schneider and Carroll arrived in 2010 -- with Wilson in 2017. A Wilson restructure could make it more costly to extend Wilson's contract or add a franchise tag after his current deal expires in 2023. Seattle would be paying more dead money if it traded Wilson before that season.Wilson said that Brown's absence was "pretty significant" on Sunday and added, "We have to figure it out because Duane Brown is our only hope."Brown's absence, and the injuries to his three backups -- Jamarco Jones, Tommy Champion, and Cedric Ogbuehi -- have forced Stone Forsythe to take up left tackle. Carroll stated Tuesday that Ogbuehi will likely miss a few more weeks due to a strain of his biceps.Carroll stated that the organization expected a deal with Adams in June. After the camp's first practice, he said that Adams' extension was possible "very soon".Adams isn't yet practicing, despite there not being a deal. Adams has been engaged and good-natured as he watched from the sidelines, giving instructions to younger defensive backs and dancing with fans.Agent Kevin Conner represents Adams. Conner was the one who negotiated Tre'Davious's $69 million, four-year extension with Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre'Davious last year. The deal was not finalized until one week before the season opener.Simmons was the highest-paid safety in the league when the Broncos offered him a $41 million contract that included $35 million guaranteed.Adams will make $9.86million this season. This is the final year of Adams' rookie contract, which was inherited by the Seahawks from the New York Jets last spring. It included two first-rounders and a package that included picks.
