Cormac McCarthy is the author of many novels about dark, mysterious things. However, he has not been on Twitter and that hasn't stopped others from following him.Advertisement@CormacMcCrthy was a fake account created for the writer. It enjoyed a brief period of success, garnering more than 49,000 followers. This attracted attention from celebrities such as Stephen King and Patton Oswalt and even being verified by Twitter. It turns out, however, that the account was set up by Daniel Watts, a Californian lawyer who is also running for governor.Watts created the account in 2018 for a joke and referred to it as an obvious parody account. Twitter seems to have completely missed this. Watts claims that the social media company verified Watts' joke account without prompting. He recently shared that he woke up to a blue checkmark on his screen. Twitter later admitted it had made a mistake and removed the account from its platform.Anyone who has read McCarthy's novels (The Road and No Country For Old Men) and his screenplays knows that he is not a social media guru and has never used it. He is often referred to as one of the most private authors ever. He has not given interviews in many years and has avoided the spotlight for most of his life.Watts doesn't seem to mind paying attention. Watts has a YouTube channel where he sings and plays the keyboard. He is also a free speech lawyer and is running for the recall election in the Golden State.Watts was McCarthy's Twitter friend and he tweeted about a variety of things, including his dreadful trips to Trader Joes and his musings on word meanings, mittens and TikTok as well as his frustrations with his TV set. Watts deserves praise for his world-building efforts, which include references to McCarthy's regular characters, such as his stupid nurse, her tattooed boyfriend and his infernal publicist Terry and his lawyer Gregory (all fake people).AdvertisementYou can find the whole thing on the Way Back Machine. It includes a lot of stuff such as this.AdvertisementThese are some other things Twitter thought Cormac McCarthy would say.Kombucha simply means tea that has gone badWe forget how quickly the pangolins' role in our sorrow!Trader Joes sells frozen meals that strongly resemble soylent. When did fortune cookies become so judgemental?Terry, my publicist, suggests that I post more photos with insipid comments.
