The new Parallels 17 officially lets you run Windows 11 on your Mac

Windows 11 will be available for Macs even if they don't have Boot Camp. Parallels Desktop 17 allows Mac users to run Microsoft's next version of Windows from their Mac desktop. Parallels Desktop 17 supports both Intel Macs and M1 Macs, but there is a catch for Arm-based Mac users. It can also be used to run Windows 11 Preview for those who cannot wait.Parallels added support for Apples new machines in M1 but there is a catch. You won't be able emulate Arm-based operating system, so you will only be able Windows on Arm. Although it is possible to install Windows 11 previews for Arm machines, we recommend that you proceed with caution. Windows on Arms x86 emulation was a difficult road. The x64 app emulation process is still in development. You will still need to have the same restrictions as with Windows running on other Arm machines if you want to run virtualized Windows on your M1.Windows on M1 will probably have the same limitations as Windows on other Arm machines.Parallels 16 users who use M1 will still have to deal Windows on Arm. However, the new Parallels 16 version will allow them to get performance improvements. Parallels claims that M1 Macs will be able to get up to 28 per cent better DirectX 11 performance and 33 percent faster start times to Windows 10 on Arm Insider Preview virtual machines. Parallels claims that Windows VMs will get up to 25% faster 2D graphics, up to 6x faster OpenGL performance on all supported Macs (Intel and M1 alike). M1 users can also use BitLocker or Secure Boot with a virtualized TPM.Parallels 17 also has other improvements under the hood. For example, it is now a universal application, which should make IT departments' lives easier. Parallels 17 will also support macOS Monterey, so virtualization software can run on macOS 12 and create virtual ones.Parallels is a great option for anyone who has to keep an eye on both the Mac and Windows worlds. You have two options: a subscription at $79.99 per year or a perpetual licence for $99.99 for the regular Parallels Desktop 17. You can upgrade to Parallels Desktop 17 for $49.99 if you have a perpetual license for Parallels Desktop 16. Pro and Business editions are also available for $99.99 per year. Parallels sells its software online, but it might be worth waiting until Windows 11 launches (potentially October) to see how it does on Parallels. Or if Windows 11 is worth the investment.
