Last update on. From the section CricketJoe Root (left), has coached England in 20 of 21 Tests since Chris Silverwood was appointed Head Coach in 2019.Chris Silverwood, head coach of the England cricket team, said that Joe Root is "coping well” with the pressure of being captain and leading the batting line up.Root scored 64 runs and a fantastic 109 in the drawn first Test against India at Trent Bridge. No other England player was able to score more than 32 runs.Root is currently running 1,064 test runs, while Dan Lawrence is the next-best at 354.Silverwood stated, "We have to ensure that the guys who are batting around him are also coming to the party,""They must take the pressure off of him."It is my job to assist him behind-the scenes, relieve the pressure and let him concentrate on his cricket on pitch."Ben Stokes, England’s key all-rounder, and Root’s vice-captain had withdrew for mental health reasons four days prior to the match. England confirmed that Jofra Archer, pace bowler, will not be playing again this season due to an elbow injury.Root's fluent century enabled England to recover from 46-2 in second innings - trailing 49 by 49 - and post 303 to set India 209 for victory.Tourists reached 52-1, but it rained on Sunday to prevent any play.Silverwood stated, "The truth is that there's a lot happening." "To do as Joe did in the Test match was amazing. It was one of his best hundreds, and it gave us a fighting chance. He's doing well.England's openers Rory Burns (31.40) and Dom Sibley (21.56) this year, while Zak Crawley (11.44) is number three. They have combined for one century in 42 innings.Silverwood stated, "We must face the facts and accept that we aren't getting those runs.""Questions were posed to them, and the question was posed to the batting coaches."We must do something. "If it's not working, I must look at the reasons and figure out how to fix it."Haseeb Hameed played three Tests in 2016, and could be recalled to play the second Test which begins on Thursday at Lord's.The 24-year old made 112 in a County Select XI's last tour match before the opening Test in India. He also averaged 45.85 for Nottinghamshire at the County Championship this summer.Silverwood stated, "He is making an extremely strong case." He's done all he can to be prepared."His performance in the Championship early season shows that there is a lot of class.""He tried his best in Durham, scoring that hundred. It shows he can withstand this [Indian] attack."We will eventually have to make a decision, and we will give him the opportunity." He's ready, I believe.England chose an all-seam attack for Trent Bridge in Stokes' absence. This is the third consecutive home Test this summer where they haven't selected a specialist spinner."You take a Ben Stokes from that squad and it makes things difficult to balance. It causes problems for us," stated Silverwood.Silverwood stated that Moeen Ali, all-rounder, was not included in the initial squad for the two Tests. However, he said that he is "certainly" under consideration for being recalled at Lord's.Moeen has only played one Test since 2019, against India in Chennai, February 2019. However, he has scored 130 runs in five innings as well as taking three wickets for Birmingham Phoenix during the inaugural edition.Silverwood stated, "We know that he's a great cricketer." He's in fine form in The Hundred. It's a different format but it shows us how he can perform."We must keep these options open."
