Pompeii's fast food joint unearthed in 2019 opens to public

This week, the public will be able to see an ancient thermopolium (or fast food restaurant) that was discovered in Pompeii in 2019.The frescoed relic was preserved by ash from Mount Vesuvius' eruption in AD74. It was discovered in Regio V (a 21.8-hectare (54 acres) site north of Pompeiis archaelogical park near the Bay of Naples, southern Italy).Researchers believe the dish was a paella. Archaeologists also found a floor made of polychrome marble, as well as remnants of duck bones and fish, as well as earthenware pots containing snails. The thermopolium restores a painting. The typical menus featured coarse bread, salty fish, baked cheese and lentils, as well as spicy wine.Visitors will also be able to see the thermopolium.Regio V is still not fully accessible to the public. It has been the most intense dig at the site ever since the 1960s.Workers clean a mosaic at Casa di Orione in the nearby area. The Casa di Orione will also be open.
