Breathtaking hypocrisy: Trump sycophants have no standing to demand that Cuomo resign

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo talks on the phone as he walks with Captain his dog at the Executive Mansion, Albany, on August 7, 2021.U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik calls for New York Governor. U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik wants New York Gov. Stefanik states that these brave women should receive swift and final justice. What is it worth?Cuomo should immediately resign and, if necessary, he should face criminal charges. This is a common position: Friday's Quinnipiac Poll found that 70% of New York State voters believe he should resign, while 55% believed he should face criminal charges. It is amazing that Stefanik passes judgment on Cuomo, even though she has sold her political soul and been sold to Donald Trump, the corrupt, ethically, morally and legally-governed party he heads. She was promoted to the No. 3 spot in the GOP House hierarchy. After Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming was fired for not being loyal to Trump, she became the No. 3 leader in the GOP House hierarchy. Cheney had voted for his impeachment over his involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack perpetrated by violent Trump supporters.Shameless defense of a poor actor"We must ensure that all people are treated equally under the law. Stefanik spoke out about Cuomo Sunday on Fox News. "And regardless of your position as the most powerful elected official, New York's laws apply to you just as they apply to all New Yorkers," Stefanik stated. She seems to support a separate system of justice for Trump, as does most of the GOP.At least 19 women have filed allegations against Trump for sexual misconduct, including harassment and rape. On video, he discusses his penchant to grab women by the p ----.. His former lawyer Michael Cohen also implicated him in a scheme for paying hush money to a porn actor and a former Playboy Model to keep them silent about their alleged affairs.Your inbox is filled with opinions: Daily insights and analysisTrump went after Cuomo Thursday night at a New York fundraiser despite his history. According to a New York Post report, Trump stated that he has real problems. He then gave shoutouts for three congresswomen (Stefanik and Nicole Malliotakis, respectively) who had first called for Cuomo to resign months earlier.Continue the storyThe Trump sycophants were shameless in their defense for a president who, outside of sexual misconduct, was under investigation for obstruction of justice, and who was also impeached twice by Congress for high crimes and misdemeanors, one of which encouraged the anti-American riot at Capitol, where Congress was about cement Joe Bidens 2020 win.President Donald Trump with Rep. Elise Stefanik, Fort Drum, N.Y. on August 13, 2018.Along with other GOP leaders Stefanik has cynically blamed House speaker Nancy Pelosi on the Jan. 6 "tragedy" and was one of the 147 senators or House members who voted against state-certified election results that night. She voted against a bipartisan investigation of the insurrection, and supported Trump's lies regarding the election and fraud. This is especially troubling because Stefanik represents Fort Drum, in the rugged Adirondack Mountains. The 10th Mountain Division, which is based there, has been the backbone for U.S. combat operations and training missions in Afghanistan over the past 20 years. It also represents Fort Drum in the rugged Adirondack Mountains. We were correct: In March 2019, we warned of a coup attempt in the event that Trump loses the 2020 election. When President Biden declared that we were leaving Afghanistan, Trump had already incited the first non-peaceful transfer in American history, less than two weeks after he pressured the Justice Department to label this election corrupt and leave it to me and the R. Congressmen. But, according to Rep. Lee Zeldin (R.N.Y.), Cuomo abused his power and disgraced the office. He must be held responsible.Conservatives often cite ex-President Bill Clinton's affair with a White House intern as an example of Democrats protecting their own. While many people wished that he would step down, he did not lose his power in 1999. It was a difficult episode. Independent counsel Ken Starr's investigation into Clinton was a huge overreach that began with a real-estate transaction and ended in sex, lies, and pain. Starr, who praised Clinton for her empathy, philanthropic work, and political skills in 2016, expressed regret that Clinton's legacy was marred by "the unpleasantness."Galactic gall on sexual misconductSince that time, the dominoes have fallen. I am referring to a number of Republicans who have been exposed for being rank hypocrites in sex. The story began with House Judiciary Chair Henry Hyde and House Speaker Newt Geingrich, who were all married and had affairs while they tried to impeach Clinton. Dennis Hastert, the man who eventually got the job, later pleaded guilty to a hush-money case that involved a former student, whom he had sexually abused while he was a wrestle coach. Judi Hershman, a former Republican communications strategist, wrote last month that Starr was having an affair.Spare us: Seven Republican lectures Democrats will never have to hear from again after TrumpDemocrats after Clinton's death, John Edwards, former senator and second-time presidential candidate, stunned them with his sensational scandal that involved a cancer-stricken spouse, a young mistress and a cover-up. Al Franken was later expelled from the Senate by the party before any allegations were made against him. This isn't a comprehensive list of transgressors from either party. Washington Post analysis shows that Republicans outnumber Democrats 22-17 in sex crimes from 1974 to 2014. This was long before #MeToo and the emergence of Trump and Roy Moore as Senate candidates. In February, I wrote about seven subjects Republicans no longer have the authority to pontificate on due to their galactic gall. Sexual misconduct is something I cannot believe I haven't mentioned. It is the eighth type Republican lecture Democrats cannot ignore.Jill Lawrence is the comment editor at USA TODAY.
