Former Child Star Jane Withers Dead at 95

Jane Withers, one of Hollywood's most iconic child stars, has passed away.According to Kendall Errair's daughter, Kendall Errair released a statement regarding her mother's passing. The cause of death was not disclosed.She wrote, "My mother was such an extraordinary lady. Her laughter lit up the room, but she also radiated joy when she spoke about her career and how fortunate she was. Kendall added that Jane's mother chose Jane's first name with the hope and idea that it would fit onto a huge marquee.It did, and it continued to do so. Jane fulfilled that dream quickly and often.JW started in showbiz as a child in Atlanta, where she was just three years old. She learned tap dancing and singing. She also had her own radio station in which she interviewed celebrities who visited the area. She was soon on her way to Hollywood where she made a name for herself.Jane was credited in several roles from the early to mid-'30s. She got her big break in 'Bright Eyes', playing opposite Shirley Temple. In this film, Jane played a spoiled older girl who was very mean to ST. Everyone seems to recall a famous doll-taking scene.Jane began to get lead roles in her own pictures, including "Ginger," Paddy O'Day," and "Little Miss Nobody," as well as "This is the Life," and "Rascals," and "Checkers," and "Wild and Wooly," and "My Best Gal." In those days, kid actors were a lot more common than she was. She had a great run in the '30s. She wasn't done.Jane was a star in many films in the '40s, but she "retired," at 21 years old, because her childhood stardom was beginning to fade. In the 1950s, Jane returned to acting and played a memorable part opposite James Dean in "Giant."In the decades that followed she continued to act and voice-act in various roles. She has 71 credits in acting.Jane is survived her by her children. She was 95.
