GREEN BAY (Wis.) -- Green Bay Packers receiver Devin Funchess apologized early Sunday morning for using an anti-Asian slur during a news conference on Saturday night.Funchess tweeted, "I regret the demeaning remark that I made tonight." It was not okay. "It was not ok. I have developed deep business and personal relationships with the Asian community. I didn't mean to cause harm and all who know me know that I love and respect all cultures. I will take this as an opportunity to learn and grow as a person. I'm forever sorry!"Funchess, who was at Lambeau Field for the Packers' practice on Saturday night, walked into the media auditorium. He said that he was glad to finally meet reporters face-to-face after speaking only via Zoom.He said, "I can now talk to people." "I like smiling."Reporters who have been vaccinated are still required to wear masks to the media auditorium. Funchess made an anti-Asian slur, pointed to his eyes, and said to reporters that he could still see smiling faces even when they are masked.He signed in 2020 with the Packers, but opted out of the COVID-19 optout. He did not play last year. Since breaking his collarbone in Week 1 in 2019, he hasn't been in an NFL game for nearly two years. He was playing for the Indianapolis Colts.Funchess was at his best during training camp on Saturday night when he caught two passes during team 11-1-1 periods. One of them was a pass from Jordan Love that went 25 yards out. He's in tight competition with a deep receiver group.In 2015, the Carolina Panthers selected him in the second round. He has 164 career receptions and 2,265 yards. 2017 was his best year with 63 receptions for 840 yards, eight touchdowns and a career high of 62.
