Omar Vizquel sued by former Birmingham Barons bat boy over alleged sexual harassment

Omar Vizquel, a long-time Major League player, was accused by an autistic man of sexual harassment. Vizquel was the manager of a Chicago White Sox minor team affiliate. Vizquel allegedly exposed his penis multiple time and made Vizquel wash his back while Vizquel was washing his.ESPN withholds the name of the man because it involves sexual misconduct. The man was a batboy for the Birmingham Barons (the White Sox's Double A affiliate), when Vizquel ran the team in 2019. The suit details "sexually aggressive behavior", which included "at least five instances" where Vizquel "deliberately exposed his erect, or partially-erect penis to the man.According to the lawsuit, Vizquel walked naked out of a shower and gave the man a bar soap. He then said, "Wash your damn back!" According to the complaint, Vizquel made the man "humiliated and intimidated" and demanded that he comply with Vizquel's demands. The complaint states that several Barons staff members, including a clubhouse manager, told the man, "Everything that happens inside the clubhouse stays inside the clubhouse." He laughed when he was told he had washed Vizquel’s back.The suit was filed in U.S. District Court, Alabama by a 25-year-old man and first reported by Conduct Delimental. It accuses the White Sox of violating Americans With Disabilities Act. The plaintiff seeks damages and back pay.The White Sox released a statement saying that they learned of an incident in late August 2019 and conducted an internal investigation which led to the end of their relationship with Omar Vizquel. The White Sox won't comment on the allegations in the lawsuit because it is still active litigation.Blanca, Vizquel's wife, has accused him of numerous instances of physical abuse. Although he was briefly detained, he was not charged. Vizquel denied that he had abused his wife. She initiated divorce proceedings last summer. Major League Baseball acknowledged that Vizquel was being investigated for his personal and professional conduct. However, he has not been employed at an organization since the White Sox fired Vizquel. According to a source, the investigation is still open.Vizquel was not able to be reached through his agent.After two seasons, Vizquel was fired as manager of Tijuana Bulls in Mexico's Baseball League.
