Unopened copy of Super Mario Bros. sells for a record $2 million

According to Rally, an anonymous buyer paid $2million for a sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. The New York Times first reported that the 1985 game sold for $2 million. This is a break in the record set less than a month earlier when an auctioned copy of Super Mario 64 sold for $1.56million.The record for the most expensive videogame has been broken many times over the last year as children continue to collect childhood collectibles. A copy of Super Mario Bros. sold at auction for $114,000 in July. A copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 sold for $156.000 at an auction in November. The record was broken in April, when Super Mario Bros. sold for $660,000 at auction. In July, a copy of The Legend of Zelda went for $870,000.Most of the records were broken through vintage games sold at auctions. However, the $2 million Super Mario Bros. sales went in a different direction. Rally purchases games and collectibles, such as comic books, and transforms them into small companies where people can buy shares. When someone offers to purchase the collectible, investors decide whether or not to sell it. According to the Times, Rally purchased the Super Mario Bros. video game for $140,000 in April. Shareholders approved the sale of the collectible to an anonymous collector.
