Thompson Hollywood Opening In August 2021

The Hyatt footprint in Los Angeles was woefully inadequate historically. The Andaz West Hollywood was the only Hyatt hotel that offered full-service in Los Angeles. There is also the Hyatt Regency LAX but it's not a great destination hotel. Hyatt recently added Hotel Figueroa to its DTLA portfolio, which is part of The Unbound Collection. This weekend, another Hyatt hotel with full-service will open in the region.Thompson Hollywood basicsTomorrow, the Thompson Hollywood will open. Reservations for stay at the hotel are accepted starting Sunday, August 8, 2021.Thompson Hollywood lobbyThe hotel is located in Hollywood on Wilcox Avenue near Vine and Hollywood. Although Hollywood is a popular destination for tourists, it has not been a great place to live historically. Although there have been many great restaurants and attractions in Hollywood, it would not be my first choice of LA hotels.Thompson Hollywood will have 190 guest rooms and 24 suites. There will also be two restaurants, a rooftop lounge and bar, a gym and 15,000 square feet for meetings. Rooms are smaller in size. Base rooms measure 270 square feet and base suites measure 410 square feet.Thompson Hollywood guest roomI am a big fan of Thompson. Thompson is a little more expensive than Andaz but it's still a good option for those who prefer Alila or Park Hyatt. Thompson properties are beautiful and feature a focus on local food and beverage outlets that are well-known. While many hotels pretend their outlets are a hub of locals, that is not the case with Thompson.Thompson Hollywood restaurantThompson Hollywood rates and points redemptionsAlthough the rates at Thompson Hollywood are high, they have dropped slightly since opening. The rates for rooms were $400 per person when they first went on sale a few months ago. Now, they are closer to $300 per person. This is for an interior room and doesn't sound very appealing.Book a revenue-stay here and I recommend that you use the Hyatt Priv program to get additional perks like free breakfast and a property credit. You will also receive 500 World of Hyatt Points per night if you book a revenue stay within the first few months of the hotel's opening. This is thanks to Hyatts ongoing hotel promotion. The hotel seemed to be quite optimistic about its pricing at $400+. I believe the current rates of $300 are more likely to stay, though they may still be a little high. Although the hotel itself is nice, I think the pricing would need to be more appealing for me to consider staying there. This includes the location and the size of my rooms.Redeem points will allow you to redeem Thompson Hollywood as a Category 6 World of Hyatt property. This means that a night of free redemptions will only cost 25,000 points. This is an aggressive award category and I believe this should be a Category5 World of Hyatt property. World of Hyatt points are worth 1.5 cents each. Therefore, spending 25,000 points per evening is equivalent to spending $375.How about the Park Hyatt Los AngelesIn 2016, it was announced that Park Hyatt would open in downtown Los Angeles in the Oceanwide Plaza. The original plans indicated that the hotel would be open by this time. What's the latest news? Hyatt claims that the property will open in 2021. However, it is unlikely. Construction on Oceanwide Plaza has been in limbo for several years, according to my last report. There is no sign of an end to these problems. The Chinese developer company behind the project had problems with mechanics liens and late payments, and couldn't afford sufficient capital. If the Park Hyatt Los Angeles opens, it will likely be at least two years later, which is probably even more optimistic. The Park Hyatt brand would make a comeback to Los Angeles with this move. Although there was once a Park Hyatt Century City, Hyatt ended its management in 2006. It was then rebranded as InterContinental.Bottom lineThe Hyatt footprint in Los Angeles has been lacking historically, so Im delighted to see this weekend's opening of another full-service property. Although I love the Thompson brand, I don't love the size of the rooms, the location or the World of Hyatt hotel categories. I am looking forward to visiting this property. What do you think of Thompson Hollywood? What are your top points properties in Los Angeles that you would consider buying?
