Miami Heat sign Jimmy Butler to 4-year, $184 million extension

Jimmy Butler discusses his decision to sign with the Heat again and says that he is excited to be a part of the team's new additions. (1:24).According to Bernie Lee, Jimmy Butler, Miami Heat All-Star Guard, has signed a four year, $184 million extension with the team.Butler will increase his salary to $36 million for the 2021-22 season. He also has a player option worth $37.6million for the 2022-23 seasons.He will remain under contract until the 2025-26 season.Heat president Pat Riley stated that Jimmy is "the anchor and face" of the franchise, along with Bam [Adebayo] & Kyle [Lowry]. Jimmy is an All-NBA player, a All-NBA Defensive Player, tough as nails, and a complete player. He is very worthy of this contract because he consistently puts himself at the top in his position. We have been very fortunate to have him as part of the HEAT organization.Butler, 31 years old, is the centerpiece of Miami's revamped roster. He will be trying to make it back to the NBA Finals the second time in three seasons next season.After Chicago hesitated to offer him a max contract for his services, Butler was traded to Minnesota then to Philadelphia. Two years ago, the 76ers worked out a deal-and-trade that delivered Butler to Miami. Butler will now have seven years and $287million guaranteed to him by the Heat.Butler helped Kyle Lowry, a close friend, to move to Miami this summer. Lowry has signed a nearly $90 million three-year deal to be a partner with Butler, All Star center Bam Adebayo, and Duncan Robinson.Since his arrival from the 76ers, Butler has been a five-time All-Star and made third-team All-NBA each of his two seasons with Heat. Last season, he averaged 21.5 points. He also set career records for assists (7.1) and rebounds (6.9). In 2021, Butler was named to the NBA's second-team All-Defense team for the fifth consecutive time.Butler's 10 years of NBA service has seen him average 17.4 points, 5.2 rebound and 4.0 assists.
