However, Korda was only one shot behind when play was stopped for 49 minutes due to a tropical storm that left just one hole. The world number one at 23 years old held her nerve and parched the 18th for a 2 under 69 and 17-under total. She beat Mone Inami from Japan and Lydia Ko from New Zealand.Inami won the silver medal by beating Rio silver-medallist Ko in the first hole of a playoff.Aditi Ashok of India, who was the world number 200 after three rounds, came in fourth.Ireland's Stephanie Meadow placed seventh after a final-round 66 and Jodie Ewart Shadoff of Team GB was 40th and Melissa Reid 55th, respectively.Korda started her final round confidently. She made a long birdie putt. However, a double-bogey at the par-three seven opened the door. Although she birdied the eighth immediately, that was not enough to take the lead with Ashok or the charging Ko.American birdied the second time and reopened a three shot lead. Ko made consecutive bogeys at 10 and 11. Home favourite Inami then began her final bid for glory. The world number 28, who was playing in the group ahead Korda, made five birdies between 12th and 17th for six-under 65. It was briefly a share the lead but it was a bogey last that would prove decisive. Korda was left to wait for the weather delay and then two-putted from just under 30 feet for gold.Korda's tennis-playing father Petr won in 1998 the Australian Open. Jessica was there to join her in celebrations. Jessica finished in a tie with Korda after shooting a seven under 64.This win completes a double-golfing victory for Team USA, after Xander Schauffele won last weekend's men's competition.
