Kevin Durant plans 4-year, $198M extension with Brooklyn Nets, manager says

(1:26).Kevin Durant will sign a maximum four-year contract extension worth $198 million with the Brooklyn Nets once he is eligible, Rich Kleiman (his long-term business manager and cofounder of Thirty Five Ventures and Boardroom), told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.Durant is expected not to exercise his 2022-23 player option, and will instead opt for a $42 million salary extension for the 2021-22 season.Durant will be playing for Team USA's third gold medal in Tokyo against France. He was spectacular on his return to court this season. Durant missed his first season in Brooklyn due to a torn Achilles tendon in Game 5 in the 2019 NBA Finals in Toronto. He still plays for the Golden State Warriors.Due to COVID-19 absences, a hamstring injury and COVID-19 absences, Durant played only 35 regular season games for Brooklyn. Durant still averaged 26.9 point, 7.1 rebounds, and 5.6 assists, and was named an All-Star.Durant's playoff record was 34.3 points, 9.3 rebound and 4.4 assists. He also played in 12 playoff games for New York, including the most memorable performance of his legendary career, a 49-point, 17 rebounds, 10-assist triple double while playing every 48 minutes of Game 5 against the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Durant then played the full 53 minutes of Brooklyn's overtime loss, scoring 48 more points. He also hit a game-tying shot at the end of regulation to force an extra session.According to ESPN's Bobby Marks, the Nets will spend $296 million next year in luxury taxes and payroll. This is the second largest number in NBA history and will be followed by next season's Warriors. The Nets are trying to win their first NBA championship around Durant Kyrie Irving, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving. Irving was one of the free agents who joined Durant in Brooklyn two years ago. The Nets made a huge trade with Houston Rockets in January to acquire Harden.Irving and Harden both have the opportunity to sign extension contracts with Brooklyn in this offseason.Durant made the official announcement via Boardroom.
