LA Clippers, Reggie Jackson agree to 2-year, $22M deal

Reggie Jackson will continue to play for the team that saved his career, according to CAA Basketball agents Erika Ruiz and Aaron Mintz.Jackson will receive the maximum amount the Clippers are allowed to pay the free-agent point guard under the CBA rules.Jackson's career was revived this season. He stepped up offensively and hit clutch shots to help the Clippers reach the Western Conference finals. The Clippers' 10-year-old veteran was able to score 10.7 points per game and shoot 43.3% from 3-point range during the regular season. He is now a playoff star.Kawhi Leonard was out for the Clippers' last eight playoff games due to a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament. Jackson assisted Paul George with the offensive load. He averaged 17.8 points per game and shot 40.8% from 3-point range during the postseason.Jackson scored 22 points in the West semifinals to help the Clippers win Game 5 in Utah. He then helped the Jazz defeat Game 6 by scoring 27 points and assisting with 10 assists.He was a fan favorite as he received chants and played 20.3 points per game in the Western Conference finals.Many expected Jackson's playoff performance would increase his market value when he entered free agency. Jackson admitted that he missed playing for the Clippers and was sad to see their season end. Jackson expressed his gratitude to the Clippers as well as his teammates after Game 6, against the Phoenix Suns.Jackson was a happy boy playing with George, his best friend.Jackson stated, "First thing I told those guys was thank you [for saving me]," Jackson added. "Yeah, every guy in that locker-room, I appreciate Paul for picking up the phone last year [when I was discussing buyout with Detroit]. This city has made me feel at home and I am grateful for all the experiences I have had. It was a wonderful organization that welcomed me. I am curious if my quirks and my strengths would have been missed by this team. They are my heroes, so I am grateful.The Clippers are hopeful that Leonard will be re-signed now that Jackson is back. Leonard turned down his player option on Sunday and became a free agent. Wojnarowski reported that Leonard is expected to negotiate a new contract to stay with the Clippers.Lawrence Frank, Clippers president of basketball operations, stated that after last week’s NBA draft, the team hopes to keep Leonard, Nicolas Batum, Serge Ibaka and Jackson. Ibaka signed into the second year of his contract, and Batum was willing to sign a two-year agreement.
