Sneaky Thieves Steal Hair From Foxes, Raccoons, Dogs, Even You

Anyone who has tried to steal french fries from a beach can attest that it isn't common for birds. Many birds are skilled in bold and brazen theft.Scientists have discovered that many birds, such as magpies, bowerbirds and black kites, steal everything, from cheap jewelry to decorate their nests to discarded plastic. There are also birds that want hair and will go to great lengths for it.Scientists believe that birds nests are better insulated by hair from dogs, raccoons, and humans. Scientists believed that birds would either shed hair or find it in mammal carcasses. A new study published in Ecology last week shows that many bird species, including chickadees, not only scavenge hair but steal it.
