10:00A factory worker from Mexico's border city was able to get the Covid-19 vaccine in just six minutes and then head home via the international bridge to Mexico.The vaccination was performed near El Paso in Texas, where the coronavirus had been ravaging for nine months.Following a severe pandemic, and in light of ongoing infections in Texas and Mexico, vaccination efforts have been intensified.According to data from the US government, El Paso has one of the highest rates of vaccinations among US cities. This is due to outreach across the border as well as an international initiative.As of August 2, 69.7% of El Pasos' population were fully vaccinated, and 81.4% were partial vaccinated.Oscar Leeser, El Pasos Democratic mayor said that it was nothing short of remarkable to go from being one of the most infected cities with Covid-19 last fall to ranking fifth in all of the U.S. cities [for vaccinations]. This is yet another example of the extraordinary spirit that our community exemplifies.Ricardo Samaniego, El Paso County judge, launched a program to immunise workers in the maquiladoras (or factories) of Juarez. Juarez is El Paso's Mexican sister-city. There, hundreds of thousands work for US-owned businesses.In July, lines of coaches trudged across the border in large numbers, carrying Mexican workers and their families to America to be vaccinated at an area designated at the Tornillo port-of-entry, east of El Paso.One-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccines up to 50,000 were requested.
