Spirit Airlines has seen widespread cancellations extend into the fifth day.According to FlightAware, 52% of the airline's Thursday schedule had been cancelled by the carrier as of 1:20 p.m. Eastern. These 410 cancellations came after back-to-back days when Spirit had cancelled more than 60% of its scheduled flights. Discount carrier Spirit also cancelled 42% of Monday's flights and 20% on Sunday.Related: Why do cancellations and delays spike?Spirit did not immediately respond to a Thursday request for comment. The airline apologized to customers on Wednesday and attributed this week's operational chaos to multiple factors including weather, system outages, and staffing shortages. This has combined to affect crew scheduling.Spirit also stated Wednesday that cancellations of crew members would gradually drop as it reassigns personnel and rebuilds its network.
