American Airlines will let you watch 30 minutes of TikTok in the air for free

According to American Airlines' press release (via CNET), some American Airlines flights now offer free TikTok. The app will allow passengers to use it for 30 minutes free of charge, giving them enough time to view at least ten longer TikToks. The airline claims that you can download the app for free if you don't have it installed.TikTok will be made available to travelers as airlines try to get back attention to flying after the pandemic. United, another competitor, has been upgrading its fleet with tech upgrades, including the ability to pre-order snacks in-flight and adding in-seat audio systems that support bluetooth audio. American recently granted passengers the ability to use Facebook Messenger in-flight for no cost. This gives them at least some connectivity to the outside world, something some of its competitors have done for many years.According to the airline press release, this promotion is a trial. CNET reports the customer response will determine the length of the trial.TikToks is a website that provides information about travel and finances. It is worth noting that TikTok may not be available on every flight. American Airlines states that this promotional offer is only available to narrow-body aircraft with Viasat WiFi systems. Many planes in the airline fleet are considered narrow-body. However, planes such as the Boeing 787 do not. American uses Wi-Fi from a handful of providers, so even if the flight is Wi-Fi enabled, there's still a possibility it won't be Viasat.According to the airlines press release, passengers can expect to find tons of content on the platform. This includes career advice and travel inspiration. Let's just hope your time isn't taken up by bizarre ads featuring Flo Rida songs.
