He could then enroll in college for next season.Bates posted on Instagram that he is down to four options. He chose Michigan State (where he had decommitted in the spring), Oregon, Memphis, and the G League.Bates is a 6-foot-9 forward from Ypsilanti. He originally committed to Michigan State last year before reopening his recruiting in April. Tom Izzo's program was the only one that had consistently recruited him before his commitment to Spartans. However, many schools have jumped in since his decommitment.In July, Bates reduced his list to eight options. This includes Miami, Baylor and Overtime Elite, as well as the NBL in Australia. There are only four options left.Bates won't be 18 until January and is therefore too young to participate in the 2022 NBA Draft. To be eligible for the draft, a prospect must have graduated from high school one year before he turns 19. Bates will not turn 19 until January 2023. He could play college basketball for two years or go to college and then play in college.After a disappointing high school season at Ypsi Prep in Michigan, Bates performed well in the Team Final grassroots program in the spring. He then re-established himself in July as one of the top scorers in high school basketball when he joined Bates Fundamental on Nike EYBL circuit. He scored 20.0 points per game in nine games, with a 33-point performance.Bates had also a 35 point effort in late- July in the Nike Peach Jam consolation bracket. He shot 13-for-24 from behind the arc and finished with six rebounds as well as three assists.Jalen Duren is the No. Jalen Duren, the No. 2 prospect in 2022 is strongly considering a reclassification to 2021. Duren is expected make his decision Friday. He's currently in Memphis, Miami and Kentucky and will be making his decision via the NBL and G League.
