Tokyo Olympics: 13-year-old Sky Brown wins Olympic skateboarding bronze

From the section OlympicsSky Brown was the youngest Olympic medallist from Great Britain, winning bronze in the women’s park skating final at Tokyo Games.Brown, 13 years old and 28 days, finished second in qualifying, taking bronze. She scored 56.47 on her final run after falling in her first two attempts.Brown broke Margery Hinton's record of 93 years to become the youngest representative for Team GB at a Summer Games.Japan's Sakura Yosozumi (19 years old) won gold with a best score 60.09 while her 12-year-old compatriot Kokona hiraki won silver with 59.04.Brown displayed great composure and calm to manage her nerves. She landed a kickflip insidedy, the trick that caused Brown to fall on her first two attempts.She was obviously happy to have completed a clean race and her father Stu was overwhelmed with emotion. But, it was a nervous wait to see if she had done enough to earn a historic medal.The eight competitors, who averaged 17 years old, showed amazing camaraderie throughout finals as they cheered on each trick and consoled one another after each fall.Brown was overcome with emotion when Misugu Okamoto, Japan's favourite pre-competition, fell during her final run.
