Oppo's latest version of its underscreen camera technology has been announced. It allows a selfie camera to fit under the OLED panel without compromising its integrity.Oppo claims that the result is that there should be almost no visual difference between the under-display camera area and the rest on the screen. This would make it more realistic than earlier under-display cameras, due to the stark text and white background. Here's an example image from Oppo to show you the quality of the camera. This is only one sample taken in good lighting. There are also some color artifacts visible in certain areas of the image. However, it looks a lot better than the ZTE Axon 20 5G under-display camera.ZTE is a step ahead of Oppo in shipping a phone, and the company's latest Axon 30, which was released last month, has been designed to improve the tech. ZTE claims the same 400-ppi density for the camera section of the screen as the Axon 20, plus better quality.Oppo has been working with under-display cameras since the beginning. They showed off the first ever demo at MWC Shanghai 2019, but it will eventually have to use one in a commercial device. It is difficult to talk about tech advancements without actually seeing the prototype in person.
