Philip Rivers says he's 'staying ready,' won't close door on possible NFL return

(2:05).Philip Rivers, the former NFL quarterback, said that he doesn't rule out a comeback months after he announced his retirement.Rivers, who had one season with the Indianapolis Colts after 16 seasons with the San Diego Chargers and Los Angeles Chargers respectively, announced to the Los Angeles Times that he was staying fit in the event of a late-season NFL stint.Rivers, 39, said that "I'm still not there." Rivers, 39, said that she is getting back to where she was. It's not likely that I would have gained weight if it was mandatory to do so last week. However, I'm getting back into lifting and running and, oh, I throw a ball out here in the heat sometimes. It is not difficult to build a lather."I will just be ready. Let me be clear. I am not predicting that I will play in December, January or any other month. You have to have someone who is interested in you."But I haven't completely ruled it out."Rivers, a five time Pro Bowler, ranks fifth in NFL history with 63.2,440 passing yards. He led the Colts into the playoffs last year, throwing for 4,169 yards as well as 24 touchdowns. In an AFC wild card game, Indianapolis lost to Buffalo.The Colts announced Monday, that quarterback Carson Wentz will undergo surgery to his left foot. He should be back in five to twelve weeks.Rivers is currently in his first year of being the head football coach at St. Michael Catholic High school in Alabama.
