Is the Delta Variant Making Younger Adults 'Sicker, Quicker'?

A 28-year old patient was recently killed by Covid-19 at CoxHealth Medical Center, Springfield, Mo. A 21-year old college student was admitted last week to intensive care.Many of the Covid-19-infected patients who arrive at the hospital now aren't just unvaccinated, but are also much younger than 50. This is a stark contrast to the frail older patients that were present when the pandemic first erupted last year.Baton Rouge, La. - Young adults without the usual risk factors for serious forms of the disease like obesity or diabetes are also being admitted to the E.R.s. They are desperately ill. It's not clear why they are so sick.Doctors who work in Covid hotspots across the country say that patients in their hospitals don't look the same as last year. The new patients are often younger and many of them in their 20s and 30s. They are also more sick than the younger patients, and seem to be deteriorating faster.
