Asia-Pacific stocks mixed; private survey on Chinese services activity ahead

SINGAPORE Shares of Asia-Pacific stocks were mixed Wednesday morning as investors waited for the release of a private survey about China's July service sector activity. In early trade, the Nikkei225 index in Japan fell 0.18% while the Topix index lost 0.14%. The South Korean Kospi rose 0.25%. The S&P/ASX 200 in Australia gained 0.16 percent. The MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares, which is not based in Japan, traded 0.16% lower. The Caixin/Markit Services Purchasing Managers’ Index for July will be released at 9:45 a.m. HK/SIN Wednesday.Overnight, Wall Street saw the S&P 500 gain 0.82% to a record closing high of 4,423.15, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 278.24 to 35,116.40.
