Apple Introduces New High-End Graphics Options for Mac Pro

Apple has begun offering high-end graphics upgrades for the tower and rack Mac Pro desktop computers. Apple also began selling the standalone Magic Keyboard with Touch ID in the same day.According to Jake Krol of CNN Underscored, the Mac Pro can be ordered through Apple's online shop with the new AMD Radeon ProW6800X, W6800X Dual, or W6900X graphics. These new options are expensive, starting at $2,400 for one W6800X module and ending at $11,600 for two.Apple describes the graphics modules in its descriptions:AMD Radeon Pro W6800XThe AMD Radeon ProW6800X is the best choice for demanding professional applications and workstation-class graphics. It has 32GB of GDDR6 RAM, delivering up to 512GB/s memory bandwidth. The AMD RDNA2 architecture is used to power this graphics option. It can deliver up to 16.0 Teraflops single-precision computing or 32.0 Teraflops half-precision computing. It can support up to six 4K, three 5K, and three Pro Display XDRs displays. The full-height MPX module fills an MPX slot and uses more power and bandwidth to provide four additional Thunderbolt3 ports and an HDMI 2.0 port. For enhanced multi-GPU performance, you can connect two W6800X MPX modules to your Mac Pro using Infinity Fabric Link. The Infinity Fabric Link connector is pre-installed when you choose the option with two GPUs. AMD Radeon Pro W6900XThe AMD Radeon ProW6900X has 32GB of GDDR6 RAM and up to 512GB/s memory bandwidth. However, the product listings have not yet gone live so pricing is still unknown. These will give you big performance gains like up to 23% faster performance with DaVinci Resolve, and 84% faster with OctaneX. The mileage will vary. These are available as an individual order or as a #MacPro built-to-order. Jake Krol (@Jake31Krol), August 3, 2021The current Mac Pro was launched in December 2019. It still uses Intel processors. Rumours have it that an Apple silicon model is in the works.
