British and Irish Lions: Warren Gatland makes sweeping changes for third Test

Owen Farrell (right) is not included in the squad.Warren Gatland, British and Irish Lions Head Coach has made major changes to his matchday squad in preparation for Saturday's crucial third Test against South Africa.Cape Town is home to hooker Ken Owens and prop Wyn Jones. Also, scrum-half Ali Price, centre Bundee Aki, wing Josh Adams, and full-back Liam Williams, all begin in Cape Town.Fly-half Finn Russell, Adam Beard, and number eight Sam Simmonds enter the 23 for this series' first time.The squad is without Owen Farrell and Taulupe Faletau as well as Anthony Watson, Stuart Hogg, and Anthony Watson.The Lions won the 22-17 Test, but were defeated 27-9 in the second test to set up a winner takes all clash.Gatland stated that the matchday 23 has an extraordinary opportunity - to win the South African Lions series.It doesn't get any bigger than this, and we are excited about the challenge ahead of us on Saturday."We have no excuses for last week - the Springboks placed us under pressure in second half and deserved victory. We must be better than the second-half performance and I believe that we will.Captain Alun Wyn Jones stated that he expected Gatland's second Test to be a humbling experience. The Lions boss, however, has been faithful to his word, changing six players in the starting XV, and drastically altering the bench.The 23-man squad also includes flanker Tadgh Beirne, centre Chris Harris and Prop Rory Sutherland.After recovering from an injury, Jones, a loose-head, will make his Lions Test debut. Owens, on the other hand, has been preferred over Luke Cowan-Dickie who is relegated to the bench.Subject to Tuesday's outcome at his disciplinary hearing, Kyle Sinckler, tight-head prop, has been named as the replacement.Although the scrum's back five remain the same, the backline has been rearranged. Aki made his debut in a Lions Test series and Williams and Adams from Wales were moved into the back three by South Africa's kicking game.Beard, who is a late call-up for the tour, receives a bench spot and a strong performance in the warm up.
