Co-founder of billion-dollar, Dallas-based real estate firm killed in plane crash

John Kenneth Den Dunn was the co-founder and CEO of Dallas-based real estate company, The Rainier Companies announced Monday.In 2003, Dunn and Tim Nichols joined forces to form Rainier Capital Management. This platform is for real estate investments. According to the company's website, the firm has closed more than $2.5 billion in investment assets and has an operating portfolio worth more than $1.6 million.Rainier CEO Danny Lovell stated that the Rainier family is saddened by its loss of a co-founder, friend, and partner. He will be greatly missed.According to the Federal Aviation Administration, Dunn's plane, a Bombardier Cl 600 jet, crashed just after 3:00 p.m. in a routine landing at Truckee Tahoe Airport, northern California. According to the Sacramento Bee, five others were killed in the crash near Lake Tahoe. According to the Desert Sun, the flight originated in Coeur dAlene (Idaho).According to the press release, Dunn was an enormous personality who was a friend and a confidant to many. He was always willing to share his humor, wit and insights on any topic.According to the press release, Ken was known for making people laugh, engaging them and bringing them into his circle for business and personal friendship.Dunn is survived his wife, children, stepdaughter and stepson, as well as three grandchildren.Investigators are still investigating the cause of the crash.
