Amazon's long-awaited series The Lord of the Rings has a release date. But don't rush to grab the best spot in the living room. New episodes will drop on Prime Video every week, and the show will debut on September 2, 2022.Today was the last day of filming for the series, which is still untitled. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted production, which began in February 2020.The series is set thousands of years prior to the events of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. The Second Age of Middle-earth will see a mix of old and new characters fighting against a newly resurgent evil.Amazon also revealed the premiere image of the show along with its release date. The image shows a man looking out at a landscape with a white city, and further away the outline of two trees. The trailer is not yet available, so expect the internet's analysis of every pixel to find clues.Amazon renewed the series before filming began for a second season. You can rest assured that whatever happens in the first episode, there will be more.
