Data help to show how unlikely it is that anyone fully vaccinated will be admitted to hospital or even die from the coronavirus. There has been a lot of attention lately on COVID-19 breakthrough infections. CNN cites data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that shows less than 0.004 per cent of Americans who have been fully vaccinated are at risk of being hospitalized after a case.AdvertisementThe CDC reported that there had been 6,239 COVID-19 hospitalizations in the fully vaccinated as of July 26th, and 1,263 deaths. Nearly three quarters of all breakthrough cases were among people aged 65 and older. The data on breakthrough infections is difficult to find because the CDC has stopped monitoring them since May 1, and not all states collect and present the data in the same way. The Kaiser Family Foundation analyzed the available state data and found that COVID-19 was not responsible for all deaths or hospitalizations among fully vaccinated people. However, the data available from states that publish this information confirm what experts have known for years: hospitalizations and death are very rare among fully vaccinated. The rate of breakthrough cases among the vaccinated falls below 1% in all states, and hospitalizations range between 0.06 percent to 0.1%. Even lower were the rates of death among fully vaccinated individuals, which was effectively zero in all but two states.According to CDC data, slightly more than 58 per cent of Americans over 12 years old have been fully vaccinated in America.
