This is an anecdote that shows the limits of vaccination.Bloomberg reported that the group went to the beachside resort for a week-long vacation around July 4.One of these people was Daniel Barefoot. According to Bloomberg, the 33-year old Washington lawyer realized he had contracted COVID-19 after he could not taste candy at home.According to the report, none of the 14 COVID-19-positive friends were considered seriously ill.Provincetown was the epicenter of a major outbreak among unvaccinated personsFriends were not the only ones infected. Around 60,000 people visited the LGBTQ-friendly community around the July Fourth weekend.According to The New York Times, conga lines, drag brunches and house parties were all factors that contributed to the spread of the virus.Bloomberg reported that Barefoot's friends encountered long lines, packed dance floors and tight crowds while breaking, but were reassured by high levels of vaccination.It wasn't enough, though, to end an outbreak. Although few people felt the worst effects of COVID-19 (which rarely kills or hospitalizes unvaccinated persons, but it does so much more frequently to those who have been vaccinated),Provincetown's outbreak prompted the city on July 25 to reinstate indoor mask mandates. This attracted the attention of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.The CDC released a Friday study that tracked 469 cases in Massachusetts among residents who had visited the town.The study found that 74% were fully vaccinated.
