NBC"While there are many heart-wrenching moments throughout 15 seasons of ER... one that stands out to me in Season 6 is after Carter and Lucy are stabbed...Lucy appears to be pulling through, only to suffer a lung embolism soon after. It's Romano's response to all of this that's so heartbreaking. You think he'll just shrug it off and say, "Well, these things happen, patients do die" after telling Corday to stop shocking Lucy. But then, he flips the instrument tray and begins again, because he doesn’t want to believe that it's the end.sass2511
